Fancy this, Mini top hat season is back and eLegAvenue.com has you “covered”!
Lord Ribblesdale set the precedent for the fellow top hat wearers in his famous John Singer Sargent portrait. To many, he looked rich, he looked powerful, grand, strong, and noble – every fantastic word one could imagine or use to describe the man in this towering high hat. The top hat wasn’t simply to be strewn upon the head; it was to be worn tilted at 10 degrees, and no more than 10 degrees in either direction. This shows the importance and emphasis on refinement this hat holds, in how it must be worn properly.
The top hat was designed and first worn by John Hetherington, a London men’s clothing maker, in the 1840′s. It was evident from the very start that the top hat wasn’t simply any ordinary hat. The first time John Hetherington wore the hat in public, women screamed and fainted, and crowds gathered. It caused an absolute uproar which led to his arrest and subsequent fine of £50, an absolute fortune in those days. A law was also passed forbidding anybody to wear the top hat in public on the grounds it scared timid people.
At least times have changed, and you can wear these sexy mini top hats wherever you go, and still feel like royalty!

Trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind.
Burning Man is a week-long event that inspires people from all over the world to come and celebrate creativity and self-expression. The Desert floor or “playa” is converted into a city of sorts with a theme. The annual event began as a bonfire ritual on the summer solstice in 1986 when Larry Harvey, Jerry James, and a few friends met on Baker Beach in San Francisco and burned a 9-foot (2.7-meter) wooden man as well as a smaller wooden dog. Harvey has described his inspiration for burning these effigy figures as a spontaneous act of radical self-expression.
“While some artists have never questioned the current marginal and passive status of art and are content to work within the reservation called the ‘art world,’ others have made conscious attempts over the last decade to combat the relentless commodification of their products and to reenter the ‘outside world.’ In the late ’60s, after a period in which most avant-garde art was drastically divorced from social subjects or effects, many artists became disgusted with the star system and the narrowness of formal ‘movements.’ They began to ask themselves larger questions. When they looked up from their canvas and steel, they saw politics, nature, history and myth out there.”
Lucy Lippard, Overlay (1983)
Burning Man enlightens the mind, imagination, and fashion sense. In the middle of the hot desert, in a city self created, one can be anything they imagine. We have plenty of accessories and outfits that could suit anyone this year at Burning Man.

Personality is the glitter that sends your little gleam across the footlights and the orchestra pit into that big black space where the audience is. -Mae West
Mae West 1893-1980
Mae West was an American screen legend and erotic icon famous for her voluptuous figure, sexy innuendos, and irrepressible wit. A free thinking and independent woman far ahead of her time, West expressed herself boldly, both sexually and creatively. She famously surrounded herself with handsome muscle men, both onscreen and off, and accrued a long list of famous and powerful lovers. Notably, West was one of the first female American playwrights, and actresses, to demand and receive creative control over her work. West’s creative expression encompassed nearly every facet of the entertainment spectrum including theatre and screenwriting, film, radio, television, and audio recording. And with a career spanning some 80+ years, she holds the further distinction of having performed both vaudeville and rock and roll. As a cultural icon she is immortalized by imitators, biographers, and even an assortment of snacks and devices bearing her name. Her trademark phrases have been translated into numerous languages, including Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, and Lithuanian.

“Being knee deep in the Depression, American filmgoers found in Mae West a risque, independent women, draped in jewels and enjoying life.” -mae-west.org
Infamous Mae West quotes:
“A dame that knows the ropes isn’t likely to get tied up.”
“Cultivate your curves – they may be dangerous but they won’t be avoided.”
“I didn’t discover curves; I only uncovered them.”
“I speak two languages, Body and English.”
“I’m no model lady. A model’s just an imitation of the real thing.”
“When I’m good, I’m very good. When I’m bad, I’m better.”
“Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”
“I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.”
